The British Institute of Learning Disabilities has been awarded a contract to trial mandatory training in learning disabilities and autism nationally. This training has been created with a number of leading learning disability and autism organisations and will inform future mandatory training legislation. The training is aimed at all health and social care staff who have contact with members of the public, and not limited to those working in learning disability and autism specific organisations. The training is named after Oliver McGowan, a young man who died needlessly through lack of knowledge of his needs.

The training is offered free of charge, and must be completed by the end of November 21. The learning package is blended and learners are required to complete short e-learning courses before attending flexible online tutorials.
You can sign up to the training using this link. Please complete the tier 1 ‘understanding learning disabilities/autism’ training before moving on to complete the tier 2 more in depth training.
