Families encouraged to rediscover summer with new guide

The coronavirus pandemic has negatively impacted the social lives of our children and young people, according to a recent survey.

Research by charity Save The Children has revealed that, since the pandemic, a third of children are playing alone more and a quarter play less sport, raising concerns about the impact on their wellbeing.

To help combat this, the government is encouraging families to ‘Rediscover Summer’ and get out and about to enjoy activities together after a year of missed opportunities.

Whether it’s visiting the places that inspired your favourite books, trying out a new sport or even learning how to code, the government’s ‘Rediscover Summer’ webpage shows families that there are plenty of new activities to try wherever they live. And for each week of the summer holidays a separate theme will be promoted, from sport and creativity to nature and heritage.

There will also be a ‘Summer Home Activities List’ due to be published on the government’s website soon, which will inspire activities for families to do in and around their home this summer.

Visit the government’s website to explore what’s on offer across the country using the ‘Rediscover Summer’ guide.
