The Goodie Box – information for referring organisations

The Goodie Box logo

The Goodie Box scheme is back for the Summer half-term 2021!

What is the Goodie Box scheme?

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a year of difficulty for many people.

We hope the Goodie Box can give families with young children some fun activities for them to do together and ideas for new recipes to try out with the food included, which are tasty, nutritious, and affordable.

It also contains some great tips on how to stay healthy, prevent food waste and other support available that may be of interest.

How do families order a box?

  • Professionals can discuss the offer with families and then order on their behalf using the Goodie Box order form.
  • Please obtain consent from families before providing their details. (Families can fill in the form directly if necessary).
  • If you referred a family previously and provided their email address, they will be contacted directly with the opportunity to order a box.

Referrals will be accepted up until 21st May.

Please ensure families are aware of the contents of the Goodie Box before ordering as we feel it’s important to prevent food waste!

What will the box contain?

Families will receive a box with some exciting new recipes to try along with the food to make them. The food included in the box will enable families to make the following recipes:

Each recipe will have tips on how to swap or add ingredients (including meat and fish), as well as tips on healthy eating, how to introduce infants to solid food and how to prevent food waste! All the recipes use store cupboard and/or widely available ingredients, many of which are also consistent with food available for purchase with Healthy Start vouchers (should families be eligible).

You can find details of the recipes from the Easter holidays Goodie Box scheme on our Healthy family friendly recipes page!

Also included in the box will be:

  • a fun book with activities and useful information for the family
  • cress seeds with planting instructions

Who can receive a box?

We’re relying on organisations to identify families currently experiencing challenging times, particularly those in financial difficulty, who would enjoy and benefit from the Goodie Box.

We hope to support families with children aged 0 – 5 years predominantly..

There are a limited number of boxes available so this will be on a first come first served basis.

All families must be residents in the Devon County Council area. This postcode checker tool may be helpful: www.gov.uk/find-local-council

Suggested Wording for Sharing with Families

Devon County Council are running ‘The Goodie Box’ initiative over summer half term.

Families who sign up will receive food for simple and delicious recipes delivered straight to their door, as well as a step-by-step guide on how to cook the recipes together as a family.  The recipes are suitable for weaning age children and have modification suggestions to suit your tastes.  The Goodie Box also contains a fun activity booklet and some cress seeds to grow together.  I wonder whether this would be an enjoyable activity for your family to take part in?

How will boxes be delivered?

Boxes will be delivered directly to the homes of families by the suppliers Devon Norse / Total Produce. All boxes will be delivered over the half term period (29th May – 8th June).

Shipping information will be provided directly to families, so please provide up to date email addresses where possible.
