Who will you nominate for excellence in social work?

We’re very proud of the fantastic work our social workers do here in Devon and we would like to encourage nominations across all categories for this year’s Social Worker of the Year Awards.

It is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the great work done by social workers across Devon. Don’t be shy, you can nominate yourself but more importantly you can nominate those great colleagues you work with; your peers, your team managers, teams and so on.

The national Social Worker of the Year Awards were established in 2006 to recognise and celebrate the achievements of social workers, promote social work and incentivise individuals and teams in the social work profession to achieve excellence.

There are 16 categories in total across children’s and adult services for individual social workers and social work teams from across England. There is something for everybody!

These include Social Worker of the Year, Newly Qualified Social Worker of the Year, Creative & Innovative Social Work Practice and Lifetime Achievement.

In 2018, Devon was proud to have five finalists in adult social care.

Following on from this our joint Devon Children’s and Adults celebration event for last year’s nominees in February was a great success.

Our Chief Officer for Children’s Services, Jo Olsson; our Chief Officer for Adult Care & Health, Jennie Stephens; our Chief Executive, Phil Norrey; Leader, Councillor John Hart; and our Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Councillor James McInnes hosted a celebration event for social workers who had been nominated, shortlisted or had won an award at the Social Worker of the Year Awards 2018.

The event also welcomed Colum Conway, Chief Executive Officer of Social Work England, which will be the new, specialist regulator for all child, family and adult social workers in England this year. Colum was delighted to say a few words about the significance of the awards, and the importance of the work that social workers do each day. Colum then spent the afternoon in Devon visiting social work teams across Children’s Services & Adult Care and Health.

Devon County Council is exceptionally proud to sponsor Team Leader of the Year – Children’s Services this year.

Entries are open until Friday 19 July and awards will be held in London in November.

You can nominate through the Social Worker of the Year website.
