Safer Devon releases video to combat online radicalisation

The Safer Devon Partnership has released a video to help combat radicalisation by highlighting the potential dangers of online gaming.

The video is part of the Safer Devon’s campaign to raise awareness about the risks of online radicalisation – and, in particular, the role the internet often plays in that process. The campaign, launched in December 2019, forms a section of Safer Devon’s broader remit to provide leadership for community safety work carried out across the county.

Help prevent radicalisation

Radicalisation can happen over anything from a few days to several years. Safer Devon therefore wants to highlight the signs to look out for that might indicate someone is at risk of, or is being, radicalised.

These include someone:

  • becoming more secretive, especially around internet use
  • spending increasing amounts of time communicating with friends they have met online
  • becoming isolated from family and friends
  • developing a fixation on a particular subject
  • expressing intolerance or hatred of other people or communities
  • changing appearance to reflect association with a group or cause
  • expressing thoughts about harming or using violence towards others
